Husband reports drink-driver

- By Gordon Currie

A WOMAN spent a night behind bars after she was reported for being drunk at the wheel by her own husband.

Patricia McLellan’s spouse called the police after the 48-year-old drove off from their Perth home on May 30 while she was more than four times the legal limit.

Yesterday, fiscal depute Lisa Marshall told Perth Sheriff Court: ‘The accused was at home with her husband. The two of them were drinking alcohol and in the early hours there was a minor argument between them. This prompted the accused to leave home in her car. Her husband contacted the police and advised them she was driving under the influence.

‘Police found the accused driving along Primrose Crescent and she was pulled over. There was a strong smell of alcohol from her and she freely admitted drinking alcohol throughout the evening.’

McLellan failed a roadside breath test and was taken to Perth Police HQ where she was detained overnight after being found to be four-and-a-half times the limit.

Linda Clark, defending, said: ‘Both Mr and Mrs McLellan had been drinking. An argument developed. She took the view it would be better if she left the property.

‘She waited until he had gone upstairs and foolishly took the car keys.’

McLellan admitted drink-driving and was fined £800 and banned for 20 months.
