MOSES HAS A CHANCE TO MAKE CELTIC MOVE

- JOHN McGARRY reports from Austria

MOSES ODUBAJO last night joined up with Celtic in Austria — with the Hull City full-back set for talks with Brendan Rodgers about a possible move to Glasgow. On the day Stuart Armstrong completed his £7million move to Southampton, 24-year-old Odubajo arrived at the club’s pre-season training camp with a view to becoming Celtic’s second permanent signing of the transfer window. A former England Under-20 cap, the Londoner has endured a difficult time through injury over the past two years but hopes to revive his career once his deal with the Championship club expires this weekend. He started out at Leyton Orient before joining Brentford in 2014 then made a £3.5m move to Hull a year later. He was the first-choice right-back as his new club were promoted to the

Premier League via the play-offs in his first season but a serious knee injury sustained soon after sidelined him. Despite failing to feature for Hull for fully two seasons, Rodgers believes he could offer competition and cover for Mikael Lustig, with discussions now ongoing. Meanwhile, Armstrong last night predicted he could be a perfect fit for Southampton. The 26-year-old midfielder put pen to paper on a four-year deal to join the likes of Victor Wanyama, Virgil van Dijk and Fraser Forster in moving from Parkhead to St Mary’s. A £1.8m signing from Dundee United in 2015, Armstrong’s reluctance to follow Tom Rogic and Kristoffer Ajer in committing to Celtic for the long term forced the club to listen to offers for him. But after the move was finalised last night, Armstrong, a key part of the squad which won the double Treble, predicted his career would now go from strength to strength. ‘Southampton seems a really good fit for me,’ he said. ‘I really enjoy the attractive football that they play and I’m very happy to be here. ‘Every season, I put demands on myself to create and score goals. I hope going forwards from here that it will be the same this term at St Mary’s. ‘I’m looking forward to meeting everyone and I’m excited to get started. It’s a four-year contract; there will be a lot to learn and I want to hit the ground running.’ Saints boss Mark Hughes said: ‘Stuart is a player who we have admired for some time and I am delighted we have been able to bring him here, especially given the competition we faced to sign him.’ Celtic skipper Scott Brown last night lamented Armstrong’s departure, saying: ‘Stuart has been fantastic for the club since he came in from Dundee United. ‘Two seasons ago, he was fantastic when the manager first came in. I wish him all the best. ‘He’s a fantastic player and he knows how much I think of him. He will be a big

miss.’
