New band, same old tune

-

NICOLA Sturgeon has finally moved to attempt to revive her failing party (Mail). It is too little, too late.

The Scottish National Party has failed to address the real problems Scots face every day, such as inefficient public transport, educational goals set too low, difficulties in getting GP appointments and hospital follow-ups, and even getting help from the police.

In light of all these problems, changing a few faces at the top will have no effect. It is the policies that are wrong.

Miss Sturgeon and [Deputy First Minister] John Swinney ought to have offered their resignations, too. What is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. GERALD EDWARDS, Glasgow. WHY has John Swinney kept his post in the reshuffle after all the education failures, and why the appointment of Mike Russell to tackle relations with the UK Government when it appears the SNP doesn’t want anything to do with them?

Last but by no means least, why has Nicola Sturgeon not fired herself for all her leadership failures?

JON FRASER, via email. A bIG reshuffle for the SNP, with many changes in the new Cabinet, and everyone will wish the party well, hoping it will govern in the national interest.

However, some have doubts. The players in the band may have changed, but it will be the same old tune, the same old dirge about independence. WILLIAM BALLANTINE,

Bo’Ness, West Lothian. WHY should the majority of Scottish voters who elected to remain within the framework of the UK’s Constitution have to pay one penny towards the salaried role of a ‘Constitution Secretary’ in the SNP’s reshuffle?

M. MITCHELL, Inverness. SO was Nicola Sturgeon’s rearranging of the political deck chairs a reshuffle or a mass resignation? I suppose we’ll have to wait for the court case to find out. PHIL JOHNSON, Bishopton, Renfrewshire. A CAbINET reshuffle in an attempt to boost support. I’ve tried that – it’s called crop rotation and it doesn’t always bury the dead wood.

ALLAN MACINTOSH, via email.
