WHEN he left his wife for a younger lover, Ewan McGregor created a rift with his eldest daughter that took months to slowly heal.

But Clara McGregor’s contempt for her father’s new girlfriend shows no sign of lessening. She called American actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead ‘a piece of trash’ in an online rant.

Miss McGregor, 22, went on to one of the fan pages for Miss Winstead on picturesharing site Instagram to accuse the 33-year-old of tearing her family apart.

Writing under glowing comments alongside a photograph of the actress, she said: ‘Most beautiful and talented woman on earth? Oh man, y’all are delusional. The girl is a piece of trash.’

Her post sparked a bitter spat, with some backing the denouncement of Miss Winstead – and others defending her while criticising Miss McGregor’s outburst.

In a subsequent post, Miss McGregor, a New York-based model, defended her actions and accused Miss Winstead of ‘tearing apart a family of four kids’.

Perth-born McGregor, 47, left his wife Eve Mavrakis, 52, and their four daughters last year and moved out of their Los Angeles home. His relationship with Miss Winstead, his co-star in US TV drama Fargo, was revealed when they were spotted kissing in a London restaurant.

The Trainspotting star filed for divorce from his wife of 22 years in January, six months after the split.

Clara and her sisters Jamyan, 17, Esther, 16, and Anouk, seven, rallied round their mother. Miss Mavrakis, who called the marital split ‘disappointing and upsetting’, is understood to have welcomed Miss Winstead into their family home in 2016 during filming for Fargo.

A source close to the family said: ‘Mary to the house once and met Eve and the kids over dinner. It was very cordial and seemed logical she should get to know Ewan and the family.’

In the drama, which is screened in the UK on Channel 4, Miss Winstead – star of psychological horror film 10 Cloverfield Lane – and McGregor play lovers. She is alleged to have developed a ‘teenage crush’ on the Scots actor.

Miss Winstead separated from her husband, director Riley Stearns, last year.

She and McGregor were reported to have split temporarily over her concerns at being portrayed as a home-wrecker. However, they have since been spotted together, including on the set of her new film Gemini Man.

Miss McGregor has posted online in praise of her mother, calling her an ‘angel’, adding ‘absolutely none of the blame here should be placed on her’.

Her sister Esther has also made her feelings clear about the marriage split, posting a song on Instagram in which she sings: ‘I don’t know how to forgive. I don’t know if I can.’
