F1 Lewis, Chloe Green, her Hot Felon ... the very unlikely plastic crusaders

SAILING on a yacht around an exclusive Mediterranean beauty spot, he had every right to expect the waters to be crystal clear.

But as Lewis Hamilton discovered, it seems there is no way to escape the plastic catastrophe blighting our oceans.

The F1 champion joined Topshop heiress Chloe Green as they scooped up 20 black bin bags of rubbish after finding a cove on the Greek island of Mykonos engulfed in plastic. Hamilton, 33, filmed himself clearing hundreds of bottles from the scenic beach, declaring it ‘disgusting’.

He also condemned companies that use single-use plastics, accusing them of being ‘blindly fixated on profits’.

Miss Green, 27, had discovered the shocking mound of plastic while enjoying a boat trip with her 34-year-old boyfriend, ‘hot felon’ Jeremy Meeks.

Hamilton, who is travelling with the couple aboard tycoon Sir Philip Green’s Lionheart superyacht, then helped them pick up the shameful mess. Wearing surgical gloves as he examined the waste, he said: ‘I wanted you guys to see the impact you’re having with all the plastics you buy and throw away – this is where it goes. Disgusting.’ And Miss Green shared a picture of herself and her fiance posing on top of 20 filled black bin bags.

She wrote on social media: ‘Jeremy and I went past a little cove and found the craziest amount of plastic and polystyrene. We made it our mission to gather a team together to clean it up.’

The Mail’s Turn The Tide On Plastic campaign has led calls for measures to stop the scourge of waste poisoning the oceans.
