Is it a hard life being a modern-day Princess?

-

I READ with amazement the interview with Fergie’s daughters Beatrice and Eugenie (Mail). What planet are they living on when they claim it is hard to be princesses with careers? They wear designer clothes and carry handbags worth two months of an average person’s salary. Why can’t they be like Princess Anne, who navigates her roles very well? These spoilt, selfish young women with their privileged and cushy lifestyle have no concept of what real life is about. They don’t know what it’s like to work all the hours of the week just to keep their heads above water. Such attitudes helped cause the French and Russian Revolutions. Mrs P. JAMES, worthing, w. Sussex. I’M AMAZED at the spiteful comments made about the working lives of Eugenie and Beatrice. They should be considered a great asset to the Royal Family and their sincerity is a refreshing change. They are proudly self-supporting and have holidays — who doesn’t? JEAN S. McGOVErNE, Birmingham. MY HEART goes out to those two poor benighted Princesses. It truly is a tough old life for them having to sport ridiculous designer hats at society weddings; being forced to wear pointy shoes for photoshoots; being career women whose jobs are so arduous they feel obliged to take a holiday every few weeks; and needing police protection at the public’s expense when they go out clubbing. I am sure we all feel their pain. MArGArET COUPE, Buxton, Derbys. BEATRICE and Eugenie can blame their father for insisting they were given the title of Princess. Had he followed the example of his sister, the Princess Royal, they could have enjoyed a more normal life, like Zara and Peter.

DAVID SPENCEr, Canterbury, Kent. I WISH I had Fergie’s daughters’ problems, which seem to run in the family. JOHN McBAIN, witney, Oxon.
