Fury as school makes ‘naughty’ children sit and watch party
A SCHOOL has angered parents after it kept ‘naughty’ children indoors while other pupils kicked off celebrations outside at an end of term party.
Arden Primary School separated Year 6 pupils and let ‘good’ students enjoy ice cream and inflatable toys in the sunshine – but the rest were forced to sit and watch for the first few hours.
The punishment applied to children who did not have the school’s ‘always badge’ – given to the best-behaved pupils – but furious parents said they had paid the same £10 fee for the party as everyone else. Kerry McCarthy, whose child attends the school in Stockport, Greater Manchester, said students had already been disciplined for misbehaviour over the past year with detentions and missed playtimes.
She added: ‘Even prisons don’t punish you twice. Imagine getting ten years for a crime and then two days before you get out they give you another ten years.’
Headmistress Nicola Haddock apologised in a letter to parents, admitting ‘mistakes were made’ at the event and that all children should have had the same amount of time enjoying the celebrations.
