Green fears for £15m hydro plan
A GLEN which starred in the James Bond movie Skyfall could be blighted by a £15million green power plan, conservationists fear.
The developer of the scheme says his firm will ‘minimise’ impact from the seven hydro-electricity installations in Glen Etive, Argyll, which will generate enough power to fuel a town roughly the size of nearby Oban.
But the John Muir Trust (JMT) has registered objections to planning applications for three schemes on the southeast side of the ten-mile single track road through the glen.
All seven schemes will include access tracks, small dams and turbine houses.
JMT spokesman John Low said: ‘They want to put an access track for construction up to 20m wide... they’re going to reduce it to about 1.5m wide after that but it will take years for it to disappear.’
Developer William Dickins said: ‘Where possible we will be using existing tracks on the hill.’
