Kane hits back in row over ‘proud’ birth tweet
HE CAUSED uproar by saying that he was ‘proud’ of his fiancee for having no pain relief during the birth of their baby.
And now Harry Kane has answered back to his critics – saying that women can give birth ‘however they like’.
The football star, 25, announced the birth of second daughter Vivienne Jane on Wednesday morning, posting an image of himself and Kate Goodland cradling their daughter in hospital.
He wrote on Twitter: ‘Our beautiful addition to the family! Vivienne Jane Kane. So proud of @KateGoodlandx for having the most amazing water birth with no pain relief at all #mygirls #hypnobirthing.’
But the footballer inadvertently caused a storm, with broadcaster Julia HartleyBrewer, describing his comments as ‘absurd’. Blogger Georgina Clarke, 26, and a mother of two, also said Kane’s comment was tactless and could cause some women to feel a failure.
Yesterday, Kane tweeted: ‘Let’s get one thing straight, any women can give birth however they would like. I’m very proud of my fiancee for doing it the way she wanted and we both learnt a lot from hypnobirthing.’
As with the couple’s first daughter Ivy in 2017, Miss Goodland chose hypnobirthing, a method which avoids drugs to combat pain by using hypnotherapy and water submersion.
