Be a good sport

THE joy of watching sport on the BBC is that there is no interruption by advertisements.

On Sunday it broadcast 12 continuous hours of the European Championships, making BBC2 a dedicated sports channel.

Viewers complain about Wimbledon switching channels between BBC 1 and BBC 2 in high-profile games. During the Commonwealth Games and Winter Olympics, critical minutes were lost in this way.

Sadly, the BBC’s new-found wise approach to sports broadcasting lasted just one day. On Tuesday, it switched channels three times, once in the middle of an exciting women’s cycle race.

And to add insult to injury, the studio anchors insist on talking to viewers as if we are ten-year-olds.
