Potty-mouthed parrot who told fireman rescuer where to go ...

- By Sami Quadri

SHE had spent three days languishing on a rooftop, refusing to budge and probably pining for her cosy perch at home.

But Jessie the macaw was hardly grateful when firemen came to her rescue yesterday.

As they tried to coax her to them, she responded with a most unladylike, foul-mouthed tirade, telling them to ‘ **** off’.

The turquoise and yellow parrot then flew off, landing on another roof and then a tree before being reunited with her owner. Jessie had been on a neighbour’s rooftop in Cuckoo Hall Lane, Edmonton, North London, since escaping from her home. Attempts by her owner and the RSPCA to coax her down were unsuccessful.

The fire brigade was summoned amid fears she may have been hurt. In an effort to win her confidence, the crew manager volunteered to go up the ladder with a bowl of food and a white towel to wrap her in.

He called out ‘I love you’ in English, Turkish and Greek – the languages Jessie’s owner is fluent in. Watch manager Chris Swallow, who attended the scene, said: ‘While Jessie responded “I love you” back, we then discovered that she had a bit of a foul mouth and kept swearing, much to our amusement.

‘Jessie had been on the same roof for three days and there were concerns that she may be injured which is why she hadn’t come down.

‘Thankfully it soon became apparent that Jessie was fine and uninjured as she flew off to another roof and then to a tree.’
