Facing jail, teen dealer who sold a girl of 14 ecstasy that killed her

A TEENAGE drug dealer is facing jail after admitting selling a schoolgirl the ecstasy that killed her.

Zoe Bremner, 14, died shortly after taking two pills supplied by Thomas Lamont, 18.

The schoolgirl, from Drumchapel, in the north-west of Glasgow, had bought six ecstasy tablets from Lamont.

But shortly after she and friends took the drug, she became ‘agitated and aggressive’, struggled to walk and seemed to be ‘taking a fit’, a court heard.

The emergency services were called but Zoe was pronounced dead minutes after they arrived.

At court yesterday, it was confirmed for the first time that a post-mortem had revealed the cause of her death was ecstasy.

At Glasgow Sheriff Court yesterday, Lamont, from Knightswood, Glasgow, pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of the Class A drug to Zoe on June 10 last year.

Another 18-year-old, Stephen Selkirk, from Yoker, Glasgow, also admitted being concerned in the supply of ecstasy to four 15-year-olds between April 14 and May 15 last year, in Yoker and Drumchapel.

Zoe and two friends had been at a house party in Knightswood, where she also attended school, before calling Lamont.

Procurator fiscal depute Niall Macdonald told the court that after the party was broken up by police, the friends decided to try an ecstasy tablet called ‘capital hardcore’, which they believed to be stronger than other pills. Zoe then used someone else’s mobile phone to contact dealer Lamont via Facebook Messenger.

Mr Macdonald said: ‘Lamont agreed to sell six tablets to Zoe Bremner for £45 and they agreed to meet.’ He added that after buying the pills, Zoe and her two friends went to a flat in Dundasvale Court, in the Cowcaddens area of the city centre, at around 10pm.

Zoe took two of the six pills, while a 15-year-old friend took a tablet and a half, and the other girl took the rest.

Mr Macdonald said one girl claimed to feel the effects of the drug about 15 minutes later, then ‘a short time later’ Zoe became ‘unable to walk’.

He added: ‘Zoe became increasingly agitated and aggressive and subsequently appeared to be taking a fit.

‘They all lifted Zoe into the bedroom and put her on the bed. Soon after the emergency services were contacted and arrived at 12.49am.

‘No vital signs were present and Zoe was pronounced deceased minutes later.’

The post-mortem confirmed the primary cause of death was MDMA (ecstasy) intoxication.

Forensic analysis of the bag the drugs had been in found a small amount of ecstasy and Lamont’s DNA.

Meanwhile, the court heard that Selkirk sold four different 15-year-olds ecstasy last year. In each case he was contacted via Facebook Messenger. Everyone who bought the drugs from him took them or shared them with friends.

Sheriff Johanna Johnston, QC, deferred sentence until next month for reports.

She continued the pair’s bail but warned both men that all sentencing options are open.

She said: ‘Each of you has accepted your guilt of a very serious offence.

‘This court has repeatedly said that people who deal in drugs, in particular Class A drugs, will face severe punishment.

‘This case is all too clear an example of just how risky it is for young people to be taking active substances.

‘Zoe Bremner died very quickly from ingesting MDMA.

‘That risk is always there, that’s why the court deals seriously with these cases.’
