Stubbs set to talk with Miller about Saints move

- By JOHN McGARRY

ALAN STUBBS is set to kick-off signing talks with Kenny Miller — and pay no heed to his recent inglorious exits from Rangers and Livingston. Scottish football was rocked by Miller’s departure from the West Lothian club late on Sunday after just seven weeks in charge as player-manager. That development came hot on the heels of his exit under a cloud from Ibrox, with the 38-year-old fined and suspended by the club, together with skipper Lee Wallace, for an alleged bust-up with Graeme Murty following the Scottish Cup defeat to Celtic in April. But St Mirren boss Stubbs, who spoke with Miller in the summer before he opted for Livingston, believes the recent controversies to have engulfed the player are no reflection on his true character. ‘Would I have any doubts about Kenny coming into the dressing

room? No, not at all,’ said Stubbs. ‘I think it has been well documented what went on with him in the past. You sometimes hear both sides of the story and you don’t know what one is true. ‘I think from Kenny’s point of view, he will want it to be amicable at Livingston because he doesn’t want that hanging over his head. ‘He is a strong character and I have no problem with people having an opinion. Sometimes, that can be a good thing and you need that in the dressing room. ‘If you look at Kenny’s situation, there have been times that he has said things in the dressing room that have been needed but it hasn’t been put in the Press.
