WARRIORS YOUNGSTERS GET THE NOD

- By ROB ROBERTSON Connacht v Glasgow Warriors at The Sportsground, Galway. Kick-off 3pm. Live on Premier Sports.

GLASGOW warriors’ head coach Dave rennie has shown faith in his new half-back partnership of youngsters George Horne and adam Hastings to ensure his side get off to the perfect start against Connacht today. scrum-half Horne, 23, and fly-half Hastings, 21, both of whom won their first international caps in the summer, have been picked to pull the strings in their Pro14 opener in Galway. Horne gets the nod at nine ahead of Glasgow’s most high-profile summer signing, australian international Nick Frisby, who starts on the bench. ali Price is still recovering from a groin strain. with Finn russell signing for racing 92, the fight for the No10 jersey has been won by Hastings, with rival Peter Horne starting instead in the centre. The other candidate, south african Brandon Thomson, doesn’t make the squad. ‘we haven’t picked George and adam because of who we’re playing this week but because both had very good seasons for us last year,’ said rennie. ‘if you go away with the international team like George did and you’re playing with the best guys in the country, then there’s no doubt he is going to come back to us more confident. Hopefully we’ll see that from him across in Galway. ‘He is in great shape and a bit of a freak when it comes to his aerobic capacity. He came in and did another personal best with regard to his sprint tests and is as sharp as ever. ‘He had a good season last year and is keen to build on that. ‘Peter Horne will play a fair bit at ten for us, but we’re very happy with how adam’s gone so far and deserves the fly-half jersey. it will be another test for him against Connacht but he has returned to us full of confidence.’
