FISH, CHIPS & PEAS!

Nigella’s foodie fun at wedding

- By Annie Butterworth

SHE is the nation’s favourite domestic goddess, famed for her hearty home-style cooking.

But even Tv chef and journalist nigella Lawson loves a traditional chippy after a night of partying.

Clad in a red dress decorated with a pea pods design, the Simply nigella presenter was in Scotland at the weekend for the wedding of writer Andrew o’Hagan and Lindsay Milligan at Glasgow Cathedral.

And later she tucked into chips from the Blue Lagoon in the city centre, declaring them to be the ‘perfect end’ to her day.

Having dined on langoustines at Glasgow’s rogano restaurant on Friday night, the Tv star attended the Saturday wedding where guests were reported to include Bodyguard star richard Madden and actress Gillian Anderson. Later, Miss Lawson posted a picture of the fish and chip shop on social media, with the comment: ‘Perfect end to the perfect day: best chips, exquisitely vinegary, from the Blue Lagoon, Glasgow.’

The celebrity cook, the daughter of former Conservative chancellor nigel Lawson, earlier tweeted a picture of a miniature bottle of Buckfast tonic wine, with the caption ‘wedding breakfast Glasgow’.

She also thanked her sister Horatia Lawson for ‘the photograph (and the chips)’.

It’s not the first time the Glasgow chip shop has been graced by celebrity customers. In 2016, Canadian pop star Justin Bieber visited the Blue Lagoon and ordered a haggis supper and Irn-Bru, while last october chart-topper Dua Lipa also visited the famous chippy after a night out in Glasgow.

on Saturday the Blue Lagoon became an online sensation when it added a new ‘sausage éclair’ to its list of high-calorie ‘delicacies’.

Instead of choux pastry the éclair features a battered sausage, split and filled with grated cheese, then topped with curry sauce.

Miss Lawson is a big fan of Scots cuisine, and earlier this year she revealed a passion for our more unusual alcoholic beverages.

Posting an image of Harris Gin on her Instagram account in June, the culinary star wrote: ‘This is the most delicious gin I have ever, ever tasted. (Though have to confess it was the beauty of the bottle that first seduced me.)

‘In fact, having not been much of a gin drinker, I am now exquisitely if expensively converted. A wee nip to sip, as it is, on the rocks, is just perfect. now planning a trip to the distillery!’

The award-winning gin is made with sugar kelp – a type of seaweed – which is hand-harvested by a local diver.

Miss Lawson, who last year attracted crowds of devoted fans to a book signing event in Glasgow, is also curious to learn the Scots language.

In another online post on Twitter, she wrote: ‘Dreich is now my favourite word. Who knew Scottish dialect could sound so like yiddish?!’
