‘Announced retirement from fashion’

THEY could conceivably be two shots from the same fashion event – but these photographs were taken an incredible 21 years apart.

Scots model Stella Tennant appears to have hardly aged a day since appearing on the catwalk in Paris back in 1 7.

In an echo of the look she was modelling two decades ago, the 47-year-old once again wore white trousers and a strappy top as she showed off Victoria Beckham’s latest collection during London Fashion Week.

Miss Tennant, granddaughter of the youngest Mitford sister Deborah, lives near Duns, Berwickshire. She shot to fame in the early 1 0s and was chosen by Karl Lagerfeld as the face of Chanel. She went on to appear in advertisements for Calvin Klein, Burberry and Hermes.

Now a mother of four and married to French photographer David Lasnet, Miss Tennant announced her ‘retirement’ from the fashion world a year after the first photograph was taken during the Valentino show, as she was pregnant with her first child, Marcel.

After the arrival of her daughter Cecily in 2001, she returned to the industry, modelling knitwear for Burberry before going back to Chanel.

In August 2014, the model was one of 200 public figures who were signatories to a letter opposing Scottish independence in the run-up to the referendum.
