WHATEVER HAPPENED TO CLASS OF 2006?

RONALD WATERREUS

Waterreus left Rangers in June 2006 and signed a short-term contract with Dutch side AZ Alkmaar. Left the club in January 2007 for New York Red Bulls before retiring later that year at the age of 37.

ALAN HUTTON

Tottenham paid Rangers £9million to lure him south in January 2008. Left Spurs in 2011 to sign for Aston Villa, where he has made 157 appearance­s.

JULIEN RODRIGUEZ

Following the appointmen­t of Paul le Guen’s replacemen­t Walter Smith in January 2007, the Frenchman was sold to Marseille. He remained there until he retired in 2011.

SOTIRIOS KYRGIAKOS

Greek internatio­nal left Rangers by mutual consent in 2006 and signed a two-year deal with Eintracht Frankfurt, before moving on to AEK Athens and then Liverpool. Also played for

Wolfsburg, Sunderland and Sydney Olympic.

IAN MURRAY

After his release in 2007 Murray spent a season with Norwich before returning to first club Hibernian. Aged 31, Murray moved in to management at Dumbarton followed by a short spell at St Mirren. Is currently assistant manager for Norwegian club Asker.

CHRIS BURKE

Joined Cardiff in 2009 and also

had spells at Birmingham and Nottingham Forest. Signed for Ross County in 2016 and joined Kilmarnock a season later.

BARRY FERGUSON

Second Rangers spell lasted until 2009 before being stripped of the captaincy and sold to Birmingham City for an incident on internatio­nal duty that also ended his Scotland career. Ferguson had spells as manager of Blackpool and most recently Clyde.

BRAHIM HEMDANI

Algerian made 108 appearance­s for the club before being frozen out for the entire 2008-09 season. Left Rangers in June 2009 and retired a month later.

HAMED NAMOUCHI

Spent three years at Lorient after leaving Rangers in August 2006. Later turned out for Freiburg and Grenoble.

THOMAS BUFFEL

Belgian returned to his homeland in 2008 with Cercle Brugge. Nine years at Genk brought a league title in 2011 and 35 caps for his national side. Now 37, he joined First Division A side Zulte Waregem for the 2018-19 campaign.

PETER LOVENKRAND­S

Rangers’ goalscorer on the night, Lovenkrand­s left for Schalke that summer before spells at Newcastle and Birmingham. Returned to Ibrox as a part-time academy coach in May 2017 before being promoted to reserve coach for this season.
