Royal highness... Meghan steps out on 4.5inch heels
FOR her first solo engagement as a member of the Royal Family, she certainly cut a figure of stature.
With husband Prince Harry left at home, the Duchess of Sussex stepped out in 4.5in black stilettos as she visited the Royal Academy of Art in London last night.
But while Meghan, 7, looked elegant in a £2,500 black evening dress by her wedding gown designer Givenchy, her vertiginous heels left her walking a little gingerly as she climbed out of the car.
The £490 suede shoes are by one of Meghan’s favourite labels, Aquazzura. She was guest of honour at the opening of Oceania, the first major showcase of art from that part of the world to be held in the United Kingdom.
The outing came a year to the day since she went public with Harry at the Invictus Games in Toronto.
Until now, Meghan has always been supported on engagements by her husband, the Queen or even her mother, Doria Ragland, who was by her side at the launch of a Grenfell Tower fundraising cookbook last week. But it was a confident solo debut for the former actress, who said the exhibition was ‘a great introduction’ to a region she and Harry will visit next month.
The exhibition will celebrate the art of Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia, encompassing the vast Pacific region including New Guinea, Easter Island and New Zealand.
It also marks the 250th anniversary of the Royal Academy, which was founded in the same year as Captain James Cook set out on his first Endeavour expedition.
