YOU WEAR IT SWELL!

Sir Rod has to wear ankle support for TV interview

- By Dean Herbert

HIS outrageous taste in footwear is well known.

But Sir Rod Stewart had to swap his designer slipper for a medical support brace when he turned up for a television interview yesterday.

The 73-year-old singer told hosts Matt Baker and Gabby Logan how he injured his ankle playing football with his two young sons Alastair and Aiden.

He explained on BBC1’s The One Show how he tripped over a lump of concrete whilst retrieving the ball from a patch of nettles at his home in Essex.

The devoted Celtic fan said: ‘I built the boys an Astroturf pitch because I don’t play much any more. But we were playing the other day and I ran into the nettles to get the ball and trod on a great big lump of concrete and this is what’s happened.

‘But it’s only precautionary, it’ll be alright in a couple of days.’

The star was wearing a fur-lined Gucci tartan slipper on his other foot similar to the £765 leather, fur-lined loafers he wore to the opening night of the Tina Turner musical earlier this year.

The father of eight says he now fits his tours around the school holidays so he can spend time with his younger children, while inviting the older ones to join him on his travels.

He also spoke of his pride at being knighted in 2016, adding: ‘It hasn’t changed my life, it’s just made me extremely proud.’
