Stranded in jail, call girl arrested as she tried to leave the US

- By Daniel Bates

A SCOTS prostitute who had sex with a 14-year-old boy in Florida has now spent a month in jail in the US – despite being ordered to leave the country.

Sarah McGill has been held by Immigration and Customs since she was found guilty by a judge in Orlando on August 29.

A friend said she was ‘fed up’ as nobody could understand her accent as most other detainees spoke Spanish.

McGill also fears that she could be held in custody for months as other inmates have been held for that long.

The 28-year-old, from Galashiels, Selkirkshire, attempted to leave the US on her own after agreeing a plea deal with prosecutors over one charge of lewd or lascivious battery.

But as she waited at the gate at Orlando airport on September 1 she was held by immigration officials who placed her in custody in Orange County Jail. She was later transferred to the Glades County Detention Centre 150 miles away and has been there since.

A friend of McGill’s said: ‘She just wants to go home. Nobody knows why this is taking so long. It’s a waste of time and a waste of American taxpayers’ money.

‘Sarah is getting fed up with it. The other people in the cells with her are from Central America or Mexico and they all speak Spanish, they don’t understand her.’

McGill was given five years probation. Judge Marc Lubet said that this would be terminated upon her leaving the US, meaning her sentence was effectively deportation.

Since being arrested as she tried to leave she has been placed on the Florida register of sex offenders, which was set up under state’s so-called ‘Megan’s Law’.

Under the ‘Sexual Offenders and Predators Search’ on the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, McGill’s profile appears.

Among the details which are listed are her mugshot, her height and weight, the colour of her eyes, the charge she was found guilty of, her aliases and whether she has any distinguishing body marks.

The website also lists McGill’s location so that members of the public can find out if she is living near them.

People are able to print off a flyer which includes all of an offender’s details which they can then post around their neighbourhood to warn parents if a sex offender is living locally.

In a separate development, the Orange County court issued a warrant for McGill’s arrest because she did not report for a scheduled visit to her probation office the day after her sentence.

The warrant states that she has ‘absconded’ but it is not clear if this will be waived because of her arrest by ICE, or if her plea deal is at risk.

The warrant was signed by judge Marc Lubet, the same judge who originally found her guilty, and it states that the sheriff’s office must ‘arrest the offender and bring her before me’.

McGill, who claimed to work as a hypnotherapist in Edinburgh, was originally arrested on April 6.

She had sex with the 14-year-old boy in a Courtyard Marriott hotel in Orlando. The victim had found her profile on Quora.com and paid her £339 – he later claimed it was his first time having sex.

A spokesman for ICE confirmed that McGill was still in detention but would not explain the delay in deporting her due to ‘security reasons’.

The spokesman did not say when McGill would be sent back to Scotland.
