OCTOBER 2, 1968 POP singer Lulu, 19 (right), said she has been driven out of her new £25,000 fourbedroom home in St John’s Wood, London, by her fans. ‘I don’t want to leave — it’s a dream house — but how would you feel to have the doorbell ring at seven in the morning and someone on the doorstep say: “Can I have your autograph, please?”’ OCTOBER 2, 1975 TWENTY-SIx public school tipplers have been suspended after slipping out to a pub for a birthday party. The Hon. Frank Fisher, master of Wellington College, said: ‘Twentytwo boys have been suspended for a week and four for two weeks.’ Six others, who only stayed for a quick one, got lesser punishments. The boys at the £1,400-a-year Berkshire school were aged 15 to 18.

The world-famous American portrait photographer, chosen by the Queen to take a series of photographs for her 90th birthday in 2016, pictured John Lennon and Yoko at their apartment on December 8, 1980 — five hours before John was assassinated. She has three daughters, the first born in 2001 when she was 52 and twins born to a surrogate in May 2005. VICTOrIA DErBYSHIrE, 50. The BBC journalist (right) from Greater Manchester is a favourite to take over Question Time. Earlier this year, she stripped off on ITV’s The real Full Monty to raise awareness of breast cancer. She has spoken of how her childhood was affected by having an ‘aggressive and violent’ father and said she and her siblings would put their mother’s Valium in his tea to calm him down.

GrOUCHO MArx (1890-1977). The New York-born comedian with the painted moustache was born Julius Marx. When he visited Germany in 1958, he was devastated to find all the Jewish graves in the village where his mother was born had been destroyed. He then went to Berlin, climbed on top of the ruins of Hitler’s bunker and performed ‘a frenetic Charleston, for at least a minute or two, in a gesture of defiance’. GrAHAM GrEENE (1904-1991). The Hertfordshire-born novelist, a distant cousin of robert Louis Stevenson, wrote The Third Man and Brighton rock. A former MI6 agent, he was rarely happy with movie versions of his writings: ‘I hate the adaptations of my books, except when I do them myself, and then I don’t always like them.’
