Asda driver who wouldn’t carry up pregnant mum’s £200 shopping

AFTER spending £200 on her monthly shop at Asda, a heavily pregnant mother was hoping for some help with the groceries when they were delivered to her block of flats.

But Amy Botten was left stunned when the supermarke­t driver dumped her unbagged shopping at the bottom of the stairs and said he’d ‘rather not’ help her carry it to the second floor.

Instead the 20-year-old mum was forced to leave her young son crying in her flat as she headed down to pick up her items.

In a video posted on her Facebook account, Miss Botten shuts her upset child in the flat and can be heard panting as she walks down two flights of stairs to collect her shopping and confront the driver.

An angry Miss Botten asks him: ‘Can you not help me with this last little bit because my little boy is up there crying his eyes out?’

The driver replies: ‘I’d rather not.’ The pregnant woman responds: ‘You’d rather not? But this is your job.’

The driver then points to the shopping he has left on the floor and says: ‘A little – no problem. But this...’ Miss Botten, of Feltham, West London, vowed to pursue the matter, saying: ‘This will be taken further because it needs to stop.

‘Asda needs to take responsibi­lity for its drivers and their customer service.’

In the video she also complains to the driver that much of her shopping has been delivered without bags, to which he shrugs his shoulders and says: ‘No more bags.’

Despite the young mother telling the driver that she is ‘heavily pregnant’, he does not reply and wheels the delivery trays away and leaves.

Miss Botten revealed that Asda had apologised and given her a bottle of champagne and some flowers, but wrote on Facebook: ‘It should NOT BE HAPPENING. It’s called HOME delivery. I just had to carry £200 monthly shop up two flights of stairs alone, pregnant with pelvic problems. No choice but to leave son on his own crying.’

A spokesman for Asda said: ‘We always try to offer our customers great service but clearly we got it wrong on this occasion and we are truly sorry. We have offered our full apologies to Ms Botten and are in contact with her to try and make amends.’
