What’s the safest way to get rid of the scar on my chin?

- by Inge van Lotringen

QI’M fed up with a pitted scar on my chin. I’ve had it for years — and it makes me feel so selfconscious. What’s the best way to get rid of it?

AThe best course of treatment is very dependent on the type of scar, so I’m glad you asked.

For hollow scars, you want to go for dermal fillers. Sculptra and hyaluronic acid (hA) based ones are popular, but according to dermatologist Dr Nick Lowe

(drnicklowe.com), there’s a better option called ellansé.

‘It’s an injectable polymerbased gel that plumps out the indentation, but as the filler slowly gets absorbed by the body over time, it stimulates collagen to such an extent that the area naturally fills out for what could be as long as three years,’ he says.

Another benefit is that, initially, on average you’ll need only two sessions, set three months apart, while with hA-based fillers you might need five.

If necessary, Dr Lowe might also cut under the scar tissue with a tiny blade to stop it pulling down healthy skin, and if needed, treat redness with a vascular laser.

For any scars, it’s important to make sure you seek out a dermatologist or doctor who offers various treatment options and can assess your needs correctly.

ellansé injections typically start at £400.
