Should Philip Green have been named and shamed in the Lords?

-

I ADMIRE Lord Hain for naming Sir Philip Green as the businessman at the centre of sex pest claims (Mail). For too long, people with influence and money have been able to silence victims with pay-offs and court injunctions. Money should not be able to influence our courts of justice. If investigated and found guilty, Green should be stripped of his title. BRIAN JENKIN, Swadlincote, Derbys. AM I the only person who can look past the hysteria surrounding Sir Philip Green to see a travesty of justice? By naming Sir Philip in the House of Lords, Lord Hain has declared himself above the law and immune from any penalty for abusing another’s human right to privacy. Irrespective of how you feel about the allegations made about Sir Philip and the gagging agreements, the High Court ruled that he should not be named. Lord Hain took it upon himself to overrule the court,

so he should be the one to lose his title and privileges. RAYmOND A. mcKERRON, Coopersale, Essex. NO ONE should have the right to pay to have information about them concealed by the law when ordinary people can’t afford to do the same. Judges and lawyers are part of the elite, so are useless when it comes to protecting the ordinary man in the street. This should be looked into by the Government and stopped. But then, of course, politicians are also part of the privileged few. Y. LACEY, Rye, E. Sussex. ANYONE who is successful and has a high profile is in for a mauling in Little Britain. Sir Philip Green has been targeted for being rich. After criticism over the BHS pension saga, he settled it by paying out a small fortune, and now he is facing harassment claims. What a spiteful country we are. mARK KENNEDY,

Redditch, Worcs. I SMILE when we are told that revelations about the questionable sexual exploits of the rich and famous are in the public interest. Surely, the only interest this generates is the lascivious lip-smacking of the self-righteous. i. CLYDE, Kirkwall, Orkney. AS LORD Hain seems to be in the know, is he going to name fellow parliamentarians who have allegedly committed similar abuses?

K. JACQUES, Stafford.
