Knife brawl at Sony’s HQ sparks terror lockdown

- By Chris Greenwood

A KNIFE fight between two chefs inside Sony’s London headquarters sparked fears of a terrorist attack yesterday.

Pop stars and staff fled screaming as armed police stormed the building amid erroneous reports of a marauding gunman. Police were responding to a string of panicked 999 calls from the property.

Elite counter-terrorist firearms officers locked down the area as a helicopter hovered overhead. The huge security response indicates the city remains on edge amid terror attack fears.

Witnesses said a dispute broke out in the kitchens of the offices in Kensington, West London. They said one of the men stood over his victim, repeatedly stabbing at him before he was stopped by colleagues. One witness said: ‘I thought he was raining punches down but then I saw the knife.

‘It was about six or seven inches long, and he was standing over him trying to get him, stabbing downwards as the other man put his arms up to defend himself. He was going nuts.’

Hundreds were evacuated and neighbouring stores were told to lock their doors. Scotland Yard said neither man had suffered life-threatening injuries. One was taken away on a stretcher while another man was led away in handcuffs.

Met Commander Kyle Gordon said initial reports suggested there may have been an ‘active shooter’.

Singer Olly Murs, who sparked panic last year by wrongly tweeting that shots had been fired in a department store, was later seen re-entering the building.
