Harry beats Queen as favourite royal
PRINCE Harry has been named the nation’s most popular royal – inching ahead of even the Queen.
An impressive 77 per cent of the public have a positive opinion of the fatherto-be, according to YouGov Ratings data. That is just ahead of his grandmother, the longest-serving monarch in British history, on 74 per cent.
Prince William is third with a 73 per cent approval rating. His wife, the Duchess of Cambridge, is fourth on 64 per cent, and the Duchess of Sussex sixth with a 55 per cent approval rating.
Prince Charles, who will celebrate his 70th birthday tomorrow, is seventh on the list with 48 per cent – trailing behind his parents, sons and both daughters-in-law.
The least popular member of the Royal Family, according to the data, is Prince Andrew on only 22 per cent. His daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, are only marginally more popular at 25 per cent and 24 per cent respectively.
YouGov Ratings measures the popularity and fame of people and products based on millions of responses from the British public and claims to reveal ‘what Britain thinks’.
Harry, 34, earned plaudits for his openness about mental health and his work for the Armed Forces with the Invictus Games.
Fans described him as ‘admirable, likeable, humorous, fun-loving and genuine’. Only 7 per cent of respondents have a negative opinion of him and his popularity is spread evenly across both older and younger generations.
The Queen, is seen as ‘admirable, hard-working and dignified’. She is most popular with ‘baby boomers’, who give her an 82 per cent approval rating, but she scores only 70 per cent among millennials. Prince William is described as ‘genuine, a good role model and likeable’.
His wife, Kate, is said to be ‘genuine, beautiful and friendly’ with only a 9 per cent negative rating.
Prince Philip, now retired, remains the fifth most popular royal, and is seen as ‘humorous, loyal and entertaining’.
Harry’s wife Meghan, 37, is described as ‘attractive, beautiful, confident, charming and charismatic’.
