Family tell of heartbreak at loss of knife horror boy, 10

- By Sam Walker and Alan Shields

A fAmily yesterday paid tribute to a ‘dearly loved’ ten-yearold boy who was found stabbed to death at home.

Kane morris was found dead following a suspected knife attack, while his eight-year-old sister was badly injured.

yesterday, as the children’s mother, laura Anne Gillie, kept a bedside vigil with her critically injured daughter, the family spoke of their loss.

in a statement they said: ‘This is a devastating experience for us as a family. Kane was a popular young boy within the community, he was full of energy and loved dearly by all.’

The horror unfolded in the early hours of Sunday when police were called to the second-floor flat in Coupar Angus, Perthshire.

Kane was found dead while his sister was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee with stab wounds. Her condition was last night described as ‘critical but stable’.

A 37-year-old man found nearby was arrested and was yesterday being treated in the same hospital.

Police have yet to release details of the tragedy, but it is believed that the children were stabbed inside the flat before a man leapt from a window shortly before 2.30am on Sunday.

A source close to the case said the man’s injuries were ‘consistent with a fall’. There were also unconfirmed reports that he had slit his throat.

Officers initially closed off the length of the town’s main street but opened the road yesterday, though a cordon remained around the building. forensics teams spent the day examining the flat, the garden and a car with a dented roof.

Tributes left nearby included teddy bears, toys and handwritten notes left with dozens of bunches of flowers.

Throughout the day parents brought children to leave the mementos as the village struggled to come to grips with the tragedy.

Kane often took part in school plays and twice won a

A former teacher said: ‘He was such a funny, happy little boy. He was the kind of boy who made a mark on you.’

Another former teacher said: ‘Kane was so full of life and keen to learn. He loved life and lived it to the most.’

The identity of a man who was arrested has not yet been released but police insisted the incident had been ‘isolated and contained’.

The children’s mother, a 39-year-old nurse, has been staying at her daughter’s bedside since the attack.

it is the second tragedy to strike the family this year.

in may, Kane’s grandfather Graham Shaw, 54, died following an incident involving a forklift truck at his home on a farm near Coupar Angus.
