Homebase is named UK’s worst online store

- By Sean Poulter Consumer Affairs Editor

HOMEBASE has been named the worst online store in the UK, with Sports Direct and Dorothy Perkins also scoring poorly.

The troubled DIY chain has lost the confidence of shoppers, who are disappointed by its poor product range, ‘bog standard’ quality and relatively poor value for money.

A survey by consumer group Which? asked 10,000 people to rate the most popular online shops based on their experiences in the past six months – looking at price, product range, deliveries, product quality and the returns process.

Homebase.co.uk achieved a score of 55 per cent, with shop- pers finding the website ‘difficult to navigate and not always up to date with stock information’.

Earlier this year struggling Homebase was sold for £1 to turnaround company Hilco.

Meanwhile, SportsDirect.com, owned by retail billionaire Mike Ashley, and DorothyPerkins. com both scored 61 per cent.

Coming out on top was beauty specialist LizEarle.com, with a customer score of 94 per cent.

Harry Rose, editor of Which? magazine, said: ‘The online shops with the happiest customers tend to be the ones that offer a personal service, quality items and deliver quickly.’

Homebase said it was ‘working hard to make changes online to provide great service when customers shop with us’.

Sports Direct and Dorothy Perkins did not respond to requests for a comment.
