Mother reveals teen son’s torment

- By Raja Sharma

A MOTHER has shared harrowing images of the injuries her son suffered at the hands of bullies.

Lisa Clubb decided to speak out after Struan, 14, endured years of bullying at school.

She said it had turned him from a ‘happy-golucky’ boy to having suicidal thoughts.

Writing on social media, Miss Clubb, of Bridge of Don, Aberdeen, detailed the physical and emotional abuse suffered by her son.

She said he does not feel safe at Don Academy and has only recently started walking to and from the school without a chaperone. He struggles to sleep and is reluctant to go to school.

Earlier this week, Miss Clubb shared shocking pictures of the most recent injuries inflicted by Struan’s tormentors. They show his forehead with a large swelling, after having ‘his head smacked off a lamppost’. The attack left him unconscious and needing hospital treatment.

Miss Clubb, 37, wrote from A&E on Tuesday night: ‘We are a very private family but unfortunately we have had no choice than to go public with this as we need it to stop.

‘Struan has been bullied since S1 by one boy in particular. This involved daily harassment and many assaults – one so violent he was hospitalised. Now in S3 someone else has decided to bully him. This has resulted in today’s assault.

‘The original bully has now decided to get involved and make the situation worse, sending abusive messages and trying to make people turn on him. This is our daily life. He can’t take it any more, I can’t take it any more. It has to stop and it has to stop now.’

Yesterday, she said: ‘Struan used to be confident, happy-go-lucky, always up for doing things. Now he doesn’t want to leave the house. He has thought about taking his own life.

‘It’s like someone on your back the whole time, constantly. It’s been a nightmare.’

An Aberdeen City Council spokesman said: ‘We cannot comment on individual cases. However, parents can be assured we have robust policies and procedures in place to deal with bullying. Any accusation of bullying is investigated and appropriate action is taken, including involving police if necessary.

‘We will continue to encourage pupils and parents to work with teachers, support staff and other partners.’
