Who is mystery bride?

Film of wedding 46 years ago is found in attic

- By Sarah Ward

IT has been hidden away in a dusty attic since it was first filmed almost half a century ago.

But now a family who unearthed video footage of a wedding in 1972 are trying to track down the mystery bride and groom to reunite them with the film.

Alexei Slater was helping his father at his home when they discovered a roll of 8mm film in the attic.

It was professionally filmed footage of Mr Slater senior’s wedding day which Mr Slater, 34, later had digitised.

However, a second roll of film discovered in the loft showed another couple standing on the steps of a church.

Mr Slater’s parents were married at Queen’s Park, Glasgow, in June 1972.

It is believed the other wedding would have taken place around the same time – and that Mr and Mrs Slater were mistakenly given footage of the second marriage.

Scriptwriter Mr Slater, who lives in London, is hoping to track down the other couple to give them the video footage in the hope it will bring joy to the couple and their family. He said: ‘The footage must have been made at the same time, but not at the same place, as my parents are Jewish.

‘It was just bizarre – my dad had put it in an envelope. I was just blown away by the footage but I’ve no idea who the people are.’

Standing on the steps of a church, the young bride is wearing a white gown with her dark hair loosely curled.

The older man with her, thought to be her father, is wearing a top hat and tails. The pair posed for photographs on the steps of the church while guests milled around. Women guests with neatly styled hair stood beside the bride, dressed in fur coats, while parked nearby was a string of cars. Due to its age, the footage is tinged green and has no sound.

Mr Slater said: ‘The bride may well still be alive. It is lovely footage, even though it doesn’t mean anything to me personally.

‘If someone was connected to it, I think they would love to see it.’

Mr Slater added: ‘I think my dad paid the guy to make our film. Back then that was quite unusual, not like now when everyone is filming on an iPhone.’

Of the mystery footage, he said: ‘It would be wonderful to track down anyone connected to the wedding. I assume they haven’t seen the footage, but only because my guess is it was wrongly given to my father more than 45 years ago, along with his wedding film.’
