Opposition leaders to hold talks on halting Brexit deal
A NEW bid to thwart the Brexit deal will be launched by Nicola Sturgeon when she holds talks with Jeremy Corbyn and other opposition leaders in London today.
The First Minister will meet the Labour leader – as well as Lib Dem leader Vince Cable and representatives of the Greens and Plaid Cymru.
She is also due to have discussions about the Brexit deal with Theresa May.
Miss Sturgeon said she would use the talks with opposition leaders to consider an alternative to the ‘false choice’ between Mrs May’s Brexit proposal and leaving the EU without a deal.
Miss Sturgeon said: ‘This is a time for grown-up, responsible governance in the public

interest. It is now incumbent on all of us who oppose that false choice to propose a workable alternative. Continued, permanent single market and customs union membership for the whole of the UK is such an alternative.’
The Tories said it would be ‘dangerous’ for Miss Sturgeon and Mr Corbyn to stitch up their own deal on issues such as a second EU referendum or a general election.
Meanwhile, Scottish Secretary David Mundell yesterday claimed the SNP wants a no-deal outcome.
Following talks with SNP Brexit Secretary Michael Russell, he said: ‘I hope... people won’t be playing politics and looking for what outcome is most likely to get us an independence referendum [or] a general election.’
