Scot takes over the top job at troubled TSB after IT fiasco

- By Annie Butterworth

SHE is known for her dedication and work ethic, returning to her post ten weeks after her daughter was born.

Now Scot Debbie Crosbie has become the most powerful woman in British banking after being named TSB’s chief executive.

The 48-year-old will earn around £1million a year as successor to Paul Pester, who stepped down following an IT meltdown in April that locked up to 1.9million customers out of their accounts.

Mrs Crosbie yesterday pledged to ensure that TSB, which has its headquarters in Edinburgh, ‘becomes the champion for consumers’.

She said: ‘The passion and commitment of TSB partners to deliver for customers is second to none.’

Mrs Crosbie, originally from Bearsden, Dunbartonshire, now lives in Falkirk with her 16-year-old daughter, Charlotte, and husband Craig, a director of tyre and alloy wheel business Skidz.

She is currently chief operating officer at Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banking Group and has been with the company for more than 20 years.

She was acting chief executive for the first half of 2015, when she became the first female executive to sign Scottish banknotes.

TSB chairman Richard Meddings said: ‘We’ve found an outstanding new CEO.’

TSB did not disclose what Mrs Crosbie would earn but said it would be more than Mr Pester, who received a £913,500 base salary last year.
