Dad accused of killing his 10-year-old son

- By Gordon Currie

A FATHER was accused yesterday of murdering his ten-year-old son.

Andrew Morris, 37, appeared on a petition at a temporary court at Perth Police Station after he was deemed not to be fit enough for the sheriff court.

The petition alleges he murdered his son Kane at his home in Coupar Angus, Perthshire, on November 11.

It further alleges Morris left an eight-yearold girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, severely injured and permanently impaired during an attempt to murder her.

Morris was badly injured during the incident. A sheriff, along with fiscal depute Tina Dickie, defence solicitor Cheryl McKnight and a court clerk had to travel a mile to the police office to conduct the private hearing. Morris made no plea and the case was continued for further examination. He was remanded in custody. Kane’s body was discovered at a property in Union Street, Coupar Angus, around 2.30am on November 11.

An eight-year-old girl was found critically injured nearby.

Detective Inspector Ross Fitzgerald, from Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team, said: ‘I can now confirm that a 37year-old man has been charged in connection with the murder of Kane and the attempted murder of an eight-year-old-girl, who is still receiving treatment in hospital. Our thoughts are with them. I would again like to thank local residents of Coupar Angus for their understanding whilst inquiries have been carried out.’

Floral tributes and teddy bears were left in tribute to Kane as his classmates returned to Coupar Angus Primary School in the wake of the incident.

A bunch of roses and lilies were laid with a handwritten note that read: ‘To Kane. I will remember you and I miss you.’
