Taiwo not for throwing in the towel

- JOE GARDNER

TOM TAIWO is calling on Hamilton to build on their performance at Parkhead earlier this season as they face Brendan Rodgers’ side on home turf tomorrow. Dedryck Boyata’s goal left Accies with nothing to show for a solid display against a sub-standard Celtic back in August. The champions, however, have shaken off a stuttering start to the season — and now present a much more daunting prospect. That doesn’t mean the home side will be surrendering before a ball is kicked, of course, with Taiwo insisting he is excited by the challenge that faces them. ‘These are the games you look forward to when the fixtures come out — the chance to take on the likes of Rangers and Celtic,’ said the midfielder. ‘Playing at Celtic Park was a great experience earlier in the season because I had never done that before. We lost 1-0 but we did well on the day. Hopefully we can have a similar performance here. ‘You have to compete. Usually, when we have a task like this, we stick to our plan quite well. We had a great chance to take something from that game, with Mickel Miller having a chance, but their keeper made a great save. The scoreline didn’t flatter us and we would have deserved a point. ‘Fine margins in games make the difference. Against Rangers we scored a great goal then lost three in the last ten minutes and you think: “How did that happen?” ‘Hopefully a bit of magic can do something for us and get us the result. ‘Over at their place, Scott McMann did really well against James Forrest, so we know we can compete against them on a one-to-one basis. We have to try to win our individual battles and stand up to the task in front of us. ‘Celtic have crazy talent. We want to put a positive performance in to make sure we are in the team the next week. We are trying to build momentum, so when we go into the games with teams around us, like St Mirren and Dundee, we have a positive platform to build from.’
