Message for dad in heaven gets heart-warming reply

- by Annie Butterworth

IT was a simple, poignant gesture that could easily have gone unnoticed by postal staff.

But the Royal Mail has been praised after responding to a little boy who wanted to send a letter to his father ‘in heaven’.

Little Jase Hyndman, seven, wanted to make sure his father James had a birthday card and hoped the postie could help him.

His mother Teri Copland posted an emotional message on social media explaining how her son had pencilled a note to the postman asking him to make sure his late father received his card on November 6.

Amazingly, the youngster received a letter from the Royal Mail at his home in Blackburn, West Lothian, yesterday, assuring him it had been ‘delivered safely’ to his father, who passed away in May 2014, aged 28. In a now viral social media post, Miss Copland thanked the mail service for taking the time to send the letter, saying it ‘means the world’ to her son and has ‘restored my faith in humanity’.

On the envelope, Jase had written: ‘Mr Postman can you take this to heaven for my dad’s birthday thanks.’

He received a response from assistant delivery office manager Sam Milligan, in the Bathgate office.

The letter read: ‘This was a difficult challenge avoiding stars and other galactic objects en-route to heaven. However, please be assured that this particularly important item of mail has been delivered.’

Miss Copland, 30, shared pictures of the heart-warming response, thanking the Royal Mail for responding.

The mother-of-two told the Mail: ‘He wanted to send it because he believes everyone should have a card even if they can’t have a present at their birthday. He is amazed and so happy. I’m happy that he is happy. We’re very grateful for the letter.’

Writing on Facebook, Miss Copland, added: ‘I actually cannot state how emotional he is knowing his dad got his card.’
