Drunk hecklers force Scots comic to quit show early
SCOTS comedian Kevin Bridges has apologised for walking off stage after being heckled by his audience.
He cut his performance in Brighton, Sussex, short and said he hit ‘a mental wall’ after being continually interrupted during his show.
Bridges, from Glasgow, promised to refund the 2,000 ticketholders after walking off stage 20 minutes early on Wednesday.
Hecklers are said to have started drunkenly jeering the comic around 25 minutes before the end of the show.
The interruptions became so loud and frequent that Bridges was unable to continue.
On Twitter, he wrote: ‘I have been ill for a few days but I didn’t want to cancel the gigs as I felt the adrenaline could carry me through, as it usually does and did tonight for the majority of the show.
‘People shouting nonsense throughout the gig is something I’m well used to but tonight I hit a wall physically and maybe mentally and I’m truly sorry to everyone I let down by finishing early.’
He promised to refund any ticketholders who wanted their money back and donate any remaining ticket money to charity. It later emerged proceeds had been donated to two homeless charities in Brighton, the Clock Tower Sanctuary and First Base.
Nick Jenner told how hecklers ‘continually interrupted the show, screaming out to ruin jokes’.
He said: ‘Kevin tried more than once to continue before apologising and saying he would have to call the night there and end the show there due to the relentless badgering.’
Another fan wrote: ‘We reported them to security yet they let them stay. I almost walked out myself they were so irritating.’
In 2012 Bridges broke box office records by selling 45,000 tickets in a day for an SECC show in Glasgow.
