NO OFFENCE

Logan in apology to Rangers over video

- By BRIAN MARJORIBANKS

ABERDEEN defender Shay Logan has apologised for the foul-mouthed social media video aimed at Rangers — and insisted he has no ill-feeling towards the Ibrox side.

After the Dons had defeated Steven Gerrard’s side 1-0 at Hampden to reach Sunday’s Betfred Cup final, a Snapchat video was released of Logan shouting ‘f*** the Rangers’ at a friend who follows the Govan club.

Logan insists it was just ‘banter’ and yesterday he claimed he has no issues with any club.

‘The Snapchat thing, it was my friend, who is a big Rangers fan,’ said the 30-year-old.

‘We have banter all the time but it is just one of those things that it got out there.

‘People will always try to see the bad in it, whereas there was nothing bad in it.

‘I have no problem against anyone. It is not in my nature to do that. People may think I do, but I actually don’t.

‘It was just a thing that escalated and I am sorry if it offended anybody or anybody took it the wrong way.

‘But, for me, if you see it, you can see it is two friends having a bit of banter and that is it.

‘Everybody who knows me understands that I literally have nothing against any club or any player.

‘Not just in Scotland. I am a big Manchester City fan but I don’t hate Manchester United.

‘I have a joke with my friends about Manchester United, because they support Manchester United. It is never anything bad towards them or their supporters.’

After an internal investigation, Logan was spoken to by his manager Derek McInnes, who said the player had been let down by his friend.

However, the Dons right-back insists it was leaked by someone else intent on blackening his name.

Logan said: ‘I understand it wasn’t (my friend) who actually put the video out there. It was somebody who took it off his Snapchat.

‘You get people like that in all walks of life. Somebody wants to put it out there to paint a bad picture of you.

‘That is going to happen. Not just to me. That can happen to anybody.

‘The person who did it — do I know him? No. Do I care about him? No.

‘What’s he tried to do? He tried to put me in a bad light.

‘That’s fair enough if that’s how you get your kicks. But at the end of the day, coming from me, that was never put out there to be anything bad towards the club or anyone who is involved with the club.

‘I am not that sort of person. It was just two friends having a laugh.’

Meanwhile, Logan admits that Celtic have the quality ahead of the Hampden showpiece.

But he has warned the double-Treble winners not to underestimate Aberdeen’s battling qualities.

‘Celtic might have players who are better than us, but I doubt they have a team that has more heart than us,’ he said.

‘It is a one-off game. I am not going to lie and say Celtic are not the best team in the league — they are. We know we need a strong performance to beat them.

‘Any time you beat Celtic, you know you have played well. Celtic are a team that have that winning mentality and they probably go into these games expecting to win. However, we go into the final knowing we have pushed them before and we have beaten them in their back garden.

‘Although it may only have been once in how many years, it shows that it can be done.

‘Celtic have lost this season, so they can be beaten. We don’t worry about them. We have to focus on ourselves.

‘The 11 players that start have to turn up and we have to put in a strong performance from the keeper to the striker.

‘It is a good chance for us to get another piece of silverware. They are still talking about the 2014 cup win.

‘I would love nothing more than to bring the cup home again for the fans and for the city of Aberdeen.’

ABERDEEN have announced they will be fielding a women’s team in the SWFL1 North League from next season.
