FALKIRK FANS PLAN ANTI-RACISM DEMO
FALKIRK supporters are preparing an anti-racism display at their next home game after Bairns striker Dennon Lewis was racially abused by the club’s own supporters. The flashpoint happened last Saturday at Ochilview as Ray McKinnon’s Championship side were knocked out of the Scottish Cup by then-managerless League One parttimers Stenhousemuir. Falkirk vowed to hunt down and ban those responsible and the club are in talks with Police Scotland to identify the culprits. Now the decent majority of Bairns fans are aiming to show there is no room for racism by organising a red-card display in the ninth-minute of their league clash with Alloa at Westfield on December 8.
The timing recognises the fact that Lewis wears the No9 shirt. Organiser Grant Roper told Sportsmail: ‘Falkirk fans are right behind Dennon Lewis after what happened at Stenhousemuir and we want to make it clear that we are a support that condemns racist and intolerant behaviour. ‘The Falkirk fans have taken it upon ourselves to plan a show of unity to try and help repair our damaged reputation. ‘Our plan is to place a red card at every seat in the South Stand at The Falkirk Stadium with the message: “Falkirk fans say no to racism”. ‘This will be a show of support for our club and for Dennon Lewis.’ Lewis, 21, who joined the club from Watford in the summer, described the incident as ‘disgusting’ on social media and admitted his future at Falkirk is up in the air. He said on Twitter: ‘I have never gone through a period like this in my life. ‘From a football standpoint, things are not going as planned for anyone involved in the club. ‘However, from a personal standpoint, never in a million years would I have expected to be subject to racial abuse from Falkirk fans. ‘I understand the frustration and anger. As a lover of football myself, all you want to see is your club do well. ‘However, for me, this is a line crossed and the abuse received is disgusting.’
