Demelza actress in raunchy sex scenes with Keira
‘Conscious not to be exploitative’
AS Demelza in Poldark she has always been careful not to flash too much flesh. But Eleanor Tomlinson shows no such reservations in her latest role.
The redhead, 26, disrobes for sex scenes with Keira Knightley in the film Colette, a biopic of the scandalous early 20th century French novelist.
Miss Tomlinson plays bored American socialite Georgie Raoul-Duval, who has affairs with both Colette, played by Miss Knightley, and her author husband Willy, played by Dominic West. The film tells how Colette is persuaded to ghost-write a book for her libertine husband, who coaxes her to have an affair with Georgie, one of his mistresses.
Colette then finds fame as an author in her own right.
Speaking about her scenes with Miss Tomlinson, Miss Knightley, , recently told the Mail: ‘I didn’t want the lesbian sex scenes to be seen through the male gaze.
‘We were very conscious of keeping it titillating, but not in any way exploitative.’
Miss Tomlinson has spoken in the past of her reluctance to appear fully nude – her love scenes with Aidan Turner in Pol- dark have been understated. ‘I wouldn’t judge anyone else for it, but personally I won’t do it because I’m still so young, and once it’s out there, it’s out there,’ she told the Telegraph.
‘People will find that moment, freeze-frame it and plaster it all over social media. There’s something so much sexier about what you don’t see.’
Last year she added: ‘I’m not going to say never. If an incredible role came along in which nudity was really important, then I would consider it.’
Colette is released in the UK next month.
