GAMBLE PAYS OFF FOR LIVERPOOL
JURGEN KLOPP’S decision to make seven changes from the weekend win over Everton almost backfired as Liverpool had to come from behind to beat Burnley 3-1 at Turf Moor. Ashley Barnes thought he put the hosts ahead on the half-hour mark but saw his effort ruled out for offside. But Burnley took the lead on 54 minutes, as Jack Cork powered home from close range. Eight minutes later, however, Liverpool were level as James Milner drilled the ball into the bottom corner. Needing to keep the heat on Manchester City at the top of the table, Klopp called the cavalry as Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah replaced Divock Origi and Alberto Moreno a few minutes later. It immediately paid off as Firmino tapped in a Virgil van Dijk pass to put Liverpool ahead. Xherdan Shaqiri made the game safe late on. Incoming Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl watched on from the stands as Saints crashed 3-1 at Tottenham. Harry Kane gave Spurs a ninthminute lead before second-half goals from Lucas Moura and Son Heungmin secured the three points before Charlie Austin scored an injury-time consolation for Saints. Wolves secured their first league win in seven matches with a 2-1 victory over Chelsea at Molineux. Ruben Loftus-Cheek gave the Blues an 18th-minute lead but second-half goals from Raul Jimenez and Diogo Jota won all three points for the hosts. James Maddison scored for the second match in a row to help Leicester earn a point in a 1-1 draw at Fulham after Aboubaker Kamara gave Fulham a first-half lead. Everton could only manage a point at home to Newcastle as Richarlison’s 38th-minute effort cancelled out Salomon Rondon’s 19th-minute goal.
