Star didn’t act on mum’s plan

-

JULIANNE Moore has told how acting was a way to rebel against her Scottish mother’s hopes she would be a doctor.

The 58-year-old Oscar winner said her parents had high hopes that she would go into medicine but she instead went into ‘the arts’. But the actress, pictured, said she still wonders what her life would have been like had she taken a different path.

Miss Moore’s mother, Anne Love Smith, was born in Greenock, Renfrewshire. She told The Rake magazine: ‘I don’t know if you ever feel like you made the right call – I think you feel like you made the call that you were meant to make – but life is so full of possibilities, so I still think to myself, “what if I had been a doctor?”.’

The star, promoting new film Gloria Bell, said her career goes against her shyness. She added: ‘I don’t like to perform, I don’t like to speak in public, I don’t like dancing or singing, they make me uncomfortable.’
