What happened next to the team that O’Neill built?

- GEORGE GRANT

RAB DOUGLAS: The former bricklayer played a key role in Celtic’s run to the UEFA Cup final in 2003 before departing for Leicester in 2005. Returned to Scotland in 2008 to re-sign for Dundee before retiring from football in 2017 following spells at Forfar and Arbroath.

BOBO BALDE: The giant defender was a talisman of the Martin O’Neill era but fell out of favour under Gordon Strachan. Later played for French clubs Valenciennes and Arles-Avignon in his homeland.

JOHAN MJALLBY: Played 144 games for Celtic and returned to the club to work as assistant manager to Neil Lennon between 2010 and 2014. The Swede is currently manager of FC Stockholm.

JOOS VALGAEREN: The Belgian famously missed two penalties in the shoot-out against Valencia but was another bedrock of the O’Neill era. Valgaeren left Celtic in 2005 to sign for Club Brugge.

STILIYAN PETROV: The attacking midfielder scored 55 goals in 228 appearances for Celtic before leaving for Aston Villa in 2006. Retired from football in 2013 after recovering from leukaemia.

PAUL LAMBERT: A Champions League winner with Borussia Dortmund, Lambert clocked up 193 appearances for Celtic between 1997 and 2005. Has been involved as a manager since then, most recently at Ipswich and was last seen being sent to the stands in Sunday’s East Anglian derby.

NEIL LENNON: Signed from Leicester for £6million in 2000, Lennon played 214 games for Celtic and was later appointed captain under Gordon Strachan. Returned to Celtic as a coach before managing the club from 2010-2014. Left Hibernian under a cloud last month after a fallout with the club hierarchy.

LUBO MORAVCIK: An unheralded £300,000 signing when Dr Joseph Venglos brought him to Parkhead in 1998, Moravcik left Parkhead a legend after forming a lethal partnership with Henrik Larsson.

BOBBY PETTA: Dutch winger spent five years at Celtic from 1999-2004 but his career petered out thereafter. Came out of retirement in 2016 to play for Scottish Junior side Rossvale.

HENRIK LARSSON: The King of Kings is Celtic’s third highest goalscorer of all time with 242 goals in 313 appearances. Played a talismanic role in Celtic’s run to the UEFA Cup final in 2013 and helped the club win four titles, two Scottish Cups and two League Cups in his spell in Glasgow.

CHRIS SUTTON: Another legendary strike partner of Larsson’s, Sutton scored 63 goals in 130 appearances for the club after Celtic paid Chelsea £6million to sign him in 2000. Now a pundit with BT Sport Football.
