ST MIRREN performed the great escape last season under Oran Kearney and new manager Jim Goodwin may need to pull off a miraculous act of his own to keep the Paisley club in the Premiership for another season. The Buddies crashed out of the Betfred Cup group stage after struggling to break down teams such as Edinburgh City, Albion Rovers and East Kilbride. Just one goal in those three underwhelming matches underlined the need for reinforcements, while a horrifying first half saw Saints go 3-0 down at half-time at home to Dunfermline before losing 3-2 in Goodwin’s opening game in charge. The signing of Tony Andreu is a good move and there will be plenty of anticipation in seeing how Oan Djorkaeff, son of 1998 World Cup winner Youri, will fare in Paisley. Goodwin will be hoping he can bring in a few more bodies to help out in what could be a hard season. Left-back is a problem area and Danny Mullen might be the only regular goalscorer that Saints can rely on.
