PROGRES FEAR KILLER GOAL

- MARK WILSON

PROGRES NIEDERKORN coach Roland Vrabec admits one goal for Rangers will end his side’s hope of repeating their shock win of 2017. Steven Gerrard’s men enter the Stade Josy Barthel this evening holding a 2-0 advantage from last week’s first leg in Glasgow. The Ibrox manager wants a strong display to exorcise the demons of Pedro Caixinha’s defining calamity at this venue and set up a Europa League third qualifying round tie against FC Midtjylland. Vrabec (right) insists Progres haven’t given up hope, but knows they need to weather any early Rangers pressure. ‘Maybe in our heads the game plan will change drastically,’ said Vrabec. ‘Rangers will play the same game as they did in Glasgow and try to score the first goal to be safe. So our aim at the beginning will be to defend well and create more chances than in Glasgow — we had two good ones at Ibrox at the end of that match and we have to make them here in the first half. ‘If we concede a goal it will be very, very hard. We want to defend well and maybe score the first goal to keep the tie open. ‘If we score 15 minutes from the end and it’s 1-0, everything is still possible, even extratime. It’s important for us to score the first goal, then maybe the Rangers players and everyone will think about two years ago and then there will be stress. ‘We expect Rangers to try and score the first goal to be safe.’ Progres are without full-back Tom Laterza, who is suspended after his dismissal for two yellow cards in the match at Ibrox.
