This plague of Nats mustn’t scare off our prized visitors

-

LIZ Kershaw is one of Britain’s best known and respected radio DJs.

this week, she tweeted that Nicola sturgeon ‘can’t even be civil to a visitor’, referring to the First Minister’s somewhat frozen expression while, ahem, welcoming Boris Johnson to Bute House.

oh, Liz. You naïve, trusting, innocent soul. Don’t you know you cannot attack the queen bee without all her little Nationalist minions swarming out of the hive to call you everything under the sun?

Evidently, she didn’t. Wounded, she lamented that as a child she used to spend six weeks on holiday in scotland every year, where she ‘was plagued by midges. Now I’ve commented on scottish politics I’m attacked by Nats.’

How dare she! one SNP councillor, Moira shemilt, a member of West Lothian Council, had quite the comeback. ‘scotland isn’t a place you go for your holidays!’ she wrote in a tweet which has since been deleted. ‘We are not England’s holiday park… Have a wee think about the model of colonialism.’

this is an elected member of the people, folks. someone who claims to speak for us, claiming that ‘scotland isn’t a place you go for your holidays’ (Visitscotland would like a word, Moira) and comparing an Englishwoman holidaying in scotland with old fashioned colonialism. As if scotland were the Belgian Congo and Kershaw some King Leopold-style megalomaniac.

At the risk of invoking more Nationalist ire, I know which one I feel should go away and ‘have a wee think’.
