GOLDSON IS DADDY COOL ON A QUEST

- By BRIAN MARJORIBANKS

CONNOR GOLDSON believes the joys of fatherhood will help him cope with the pressures of trying to prevent Celtic from reaching nine-in-a-row. The Rangers defender admits that he toiled last season every time the Ibrox side suffered a damaging defeat or draw. But 14-month-old son Caleb has been a ray of light that has helped him get over his disappointments and ready for the heightened rigours of the huge season that lies ahead. Goldson (below) said: ‘Sometimes last season I let myself get too drawn in after defeats or draws which I knew had hurt our chances. ‘I let it affect me. After a game, I’d think about it too much. ‘At Rangers, losing or drawing a game feels like the end of the world in a way it never has before. And I’d take that with me for the next few days. ‘The way I deal with it is I go home to my little boy, who is running around the house causing carnage. ‘That takes your mind off football. He always comes up and smiles and gives me a kiss. ‘That (fatherhood) has helped me a lot as a man and I think it has helped me deep down with football as well. ‘Now, while it still hurts at the time and I’m still a very bad loser, at the same time games come quickly and you’ve got to let things go and move on as quickly as you can. ‘I’m a year down the road at Rangers and I know what’s in store for the new season.’ The significance of nine-in-arow in Scottish football is nothing new to Goldson after he was given a crash course on the subject some years ago by his now Rangers team-mate Jamie Murphy. ‘I heard about nine-in-a-row before I even came to Rangers because Jamie would speak about it when we were both together at Brighton. ‘He spoke about Rangers a lot, so I first heard all about nine-in-a-row a few years ago. ‘You do get reminded all the time about it by fans and by the players here who are Rangers through and through. I know all the players are aware of it. ‘We all know what is ahead of us and we are all excited about the season ahead. ‘But we just have to focus on ourselves and on putting in a good performance in the first game of the new season.’
