Distillery and V&A Dundee on must-see list
DESPITE only opening last year, they have joined the ranks of Scotland’s most popular destinations.
Now two of the country’s newest visitor attractions have been officially named as mustsees for international travellers.
Time magazine has revealed that V&A Dundee and The Macallan Distillery in Speyside feature on its list of ‘The World’s Greatest Places 2019’.
Along with the University Arms Cambridge, they are the only UK locations included among the top 100 global destinations.
Other attractions on the list include the Geosea Geothermal Sea Baths in Iceland; the Mori Building Digital Art Museum in Tokyo, Japan; the National Museum of Qatar; the Teatro Galli in Rimini, Italy; the Xiqu
‘A fantastic achievement’
Centre in Hong Kong; the UluruKata Tjuta National Park in Australia’s Northern Territory; and the Shed arts centre in New York City.
V&A Dundee, an international centre for design, opened in September last year, and has already attracted more than 750,000 visitors.
The Macallan Distillery Experience in Craigellachie, which also opened in 2018, has already received a number of accolades for its innovative design.
Tourism Secretary Fiona Hyslop said: ‘This is a fantastic achievement for both the V&A Dundee and the Macallan Distillery. Both attractions represent the very best of Scotland’s tourism experience.’
VisitScotland’s Malcolm Roughead said: ‘Both attractions have been ground-breaking for their respective city and region.’
