PUPPET ADVENTURE The Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance, Netflix

THERE’S an incredible level of craftsmans­hip on display in this ten-part prequel to Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal (also on Netflix), which follows three ‘gelflings’ as they rebel against their evil overlords. The voice cast helping to bring this stunning mix of CGI and puppetry to life includes Taron Egerton, Mark Hamill, Simon Pegg and Outlander’s Caitriona Balfe.

SEVENTIES SERIES Shadows Of Fear, 9pm, Talking Pictures TV

THE first of a weekly repeat for ITV’s psychologi­cal thriller, in which fear drives the characters to drastic action. In the first of 11 stand-alone tales, Peter (Michael Craig) becomes obsessed with protecting his home from burglars, one of whom is played by Mark McManus (Taggart).

MURDER MYSTERY Perception, 9pm, 5 USA

DR PIERCE faces a turning point in this new episode, in which his therapist demands he stop talking to his most frequent hallucinat­ion, Natalie — who is also his closest confidante. So, he goes out to ‘have some fun’, an experience that leads to another hallucinat­ion (played by Clint Eastwood’s daughter, Francesca) — and murder.

FANTASY TALE Carnival Row, Amazon Prime

AMAZON’S ambitious eight-part drama is set in a Victorians­tyle fantasy world, and takes at least one episode before it starts to make sense — but it’s worth the wait. At its heart is the frustrated love affair between a faerie and a tortured detective (Cara Delevingne, with an Irish accent, and Orlando Bloom, both pictured) in a human city that teems with unwelcome magical beings.

FREEVIEW MOVIE Identity Thief, 9pm, ITV2

COMIC talents Melissa McCarthy and Jason Bateman team up for this comedy caper. Bateman is the guy tracking down McCarthy’s con artist as she goes on a spending spree with his credit cards.

MUSICAL ROOTS Smashing Hits! The 80s Pop Map Of Britain And Ireland, 9.30pm, BBC4

PART two explores the impact of American music on Glasgow. This includes country, which was really returning to its roots as it grew out of Scottish and Irish immigrants bringing folk to the U.S. There’s a Grand Ole Opry club in Glasgow, the city that gave us Sharleen Spiteri’s Texas.
