McGREGOR AND FAROOQ SET FOR SCOTTISH SUPERFIGHT

- By GARY KEOWN

LEE McGREGOR insists there will be no long-term loser from his upcoming Scottish superfight with Kash Farooq. McGregor’s Commonwealth bantamweight title goes on the line along with Farooq’s British crown when the pair square off at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow on November 16 in a battle that will light up the country. The Edinburgh fighter rates it the biggest all-Scots showdown since Alex Arthur earned a 12-round decision over Ricky Burns at the Meadowbank Sports Centre for British, European and Commonwealth superfeatherweight belts 13 years ago. Arthur went on to win the interim WBO crown while Burns carved out a stellar career as a world champion in three different weight classes. And McGregor (left) believes the sky will be the limit for him and Glasgow rival Farooq (right) after this contest, given the fact it is to be shown live on ESPN Plus in America and streamed worldwide on internet broadcaster iFL TV. ‘The loser is not going to be in a bad position,’ he said. ‘No matter what, this is going to be a good, hard, close fight and is going to be good for both of us in our careers. ‘Whatever the result, we will both be applauded and respected afterwards. Our profiles will go through the roof. Trust me, it is going to be a cracker. Farooq has also promised a truly special occasion. ‘This harks back to the golden days of Scottish boxing,’ he said. ‘There’s no bad beef. It’s simply going to be a great night.’
