RASHFORD’S GOAL IS TO OUTSCORE KANE

- By DOMINIC KING

MARCUS RASHFORD wants to outscore Harry Kane and be the man whose goals fire England to Euro 2020. The Manchester United striker will start tonight’s Wembley Group A fixture against Bulgaria in a front three, alongside captain Kane and Raheem Sterling, as Gareth Southgate’s men seek to maintain their perfect start to qualification. Rashford has not hit the target since netting two in United’s 4-0 opening weekend win over Chelsea. But he is on a run of four goals in seven appearances for his country and is desperate to get back on the scoresheet. Michael Owen questioned this week whether Rashford cared enough to go to bed ‘obsessing’ about his goals record — but the 21-year-old insists he’s as driven as any top-class striker, so much so that he wants to emulate Kane. ‘Harry is one of the best finishers I’ve played with,’ said Rashford. ‘When we practise finishing, in my head, it’s about being as close to him as possible. So if he scores six, I want to score six; if he scores seven, I want to score eight. ‘Even though we’re fighting for the same position we do drive each other on.’ Rashford said he feels ‘haunted’ if he’s played in a game in which his team have won but he has not scored. ‘Of course you’re happy, but when you go home you look back and think: “Where could you have got goals?” It’s the same when you score in a game, you know you’ve had other chances so you’re looking at why didn’t you take them, too.’ Kick-off: 5pm Wembley Stadium.
